Worn by progressive women eager to shed their corsets on hot summer days, lingerie dresses (also called "pneumonia dresses") endured in popularity through the 1920s when their more formal counterparts--tea dresses--lost favor. Despite its being a century old, when paired with a simple chemise slip this dress would be cooler than most modern garments a quarter its size.
