While for better or worse fur has always been synonymous with luxury, in the 1920s and 30s the epitome of high style went beyond fox, mink, racoon and lamb to include monkey fur. With the average hair shaft measuring almost 4" in length, no other fur can match its luster, texture and volume.
Typical uses of monkey fur included small amounts of trim on coats, scarves and gloves but a select few could afford an entire garment made of the unusual pelt. This extraordinary swing jacket, with its high Hollywood Regency shoulders and gold trimmed collar, is one of them. In 20 years of collecting we have never seen another in its style or condition, and we probably never will again.
